This was our final year Mechanical Engg. design project at Government College of Engineering, Aurangabad, India. We designed and manufactured a three wheeled vehicle which can be driven either electrically or with the help of pedals.
It travels around 40Km/charge & takes about 1-1.5 units/charge . It attained max speed of 35km/hr at 100 kg load(rider + vehicle load).

  • That is impressive that with the one rider it has no trouble on hills. Nice. I suppose a tadpole (single powered wheel in the back with two wheels in front) might work better than the delta configuration for hills, but it seems you made it work.

  • yeah you are right....actually our first design was tadpole with rear driven one....but could not carry out because of complications in turning and lack of time...I saw d video of your trike...its amazing....

  • Well, we did not face any major problem going uphill because the weight of the front wheel with motor itself is about 9-10 kg. also the position of the rider is nearly midway so there is enough weight distribution at front end to avoid losing traction. However, we did face some problems when we increased the payload....we tried it with two riders(somehow we managed to sit!)...it did well on plain road but lost grip at uphills with two riders (approx 110 kg.).   • When I rode frequently I would max out at about 30-40KM/H on the flats, 45-55 downhill and average about 20-25KPH on a 1-2 hour ride. On a cannondale trail bike with narrow tires

    Max speed reached downhill was about 65KPH. I like to ride fast it just seems the trikes man or in this case electric just don't have the speed.

  • Thanks. It is a lot of fun. I have seen some videos of electric assist on trikes like mine, but they are very costly. Almost as much as the trike is originally!

  • How does it do up hills? Seems like with the electric powered wheel in front, that weight would be in back on an uphill... does the front wheel loose traction?
