Notice that the lightning struck 20 feet from the transformer but the electrical current arced 20 feet to blow up the transformer in front of me then the current traveled across the power line over the street to blow up the transformer on the other side of the street simultaneously.

this happened at my mother's house about three years ago when a lightning struck a powerlne in the neighborhood causing the transformer to buzz real loud and spark just like this. the lightning also knocked out the powerline just one street behind.
