They can be black they can be white confirmed, contrails/chemical trails that is. Seeing a jet leaving a huge billowing black smoke trail is not reassuring to people flying by, the black soot on window could have come from the 777 engines as well if you noticed the black streaking exhaust while in flight. Thankfully no one freaked out and assumed it was on fire, I explained it as hard acceleration at first to guy next to me as he noticed.

Very visible exhaust waste from a close passing jet, I only noticed when a passenger pointed out it was changing direction, after burn exhaust blackness? or waste dumping as I have been imformed is legal in atmosphere based on a PPM level of dispersion.

Seeing these clouds up close from an airplane is bizarre, they look strange. I can't really explain it. That black matter is very disturbing, I really hope we can get some disclosure on this issue.
