Here is the link to the news report about the CDC's estimate that there are 5.2 million kids afflicted with noise-induced hearing loss. The main reason is loud entertainment noise ("music"):

This video is from Pioneer Electronics,a boom car equipment marketer. It was downloaded from the website of the Citizens Coalition Against Noise Pollution.

Starting at about 2:10 in the video, a boomhead boasts of making other people's cars shake. Following this a boomhead says he "gets off on the pounding feeling in his chest."

The boomheads are inflicting themselves both with hearing loss and organ damage. According to this BBC report, loud bass can collapse lungs:

Boom cars and other forms of noise pollution are an environmental problem around the nation. I live in Norman, Oklahoma.

Boom cars have had their way disturbing people in Norman since the early 90s. In 2002, local citizens were calling city council members and demanding law enforcement efforts against them.

University of Oklahoma president David Boren did his best to obstruct the law enforcement effort. In the campus newspaper of August 29, 2002, he ridiculed the noise control effort as the "silliest thing I have ever heard of." He tried to mislead readers into thinking that the police were going to try to silence the cheers of football crowds and the OU marching band. That was, of course, total rubbish. Go here for the news article:

http://oudaily.com/news/2002/aug/29/ordinance-faces-stricter-enforcement/

David Boren is on the board of directors of Texas Instruments, which produces boom car equipment:

TI also produces and markets cell phone chips. Cell phone nuisances have been tolerated in the OU library since the late 90s. A "ban" was announced against them in 2001, but it is never enforced. See this campus news article about complaints from OU students about the cell phone nuisance in the library:

Starting at 2:35, one of the audio thugs in the video boasts that his boom car sets off car alarms and once caused a little boy to cry in the middle of the street.

Small children are instinctively frightened by loud noise. Nature has equipped us with these protective instincts, because noise causes physical stress and hearing impairment. As children age, they learn from noise-lovers and marketers to suppress these instincts. See this 1978 EPA brochure about the health hazards of excessive noise:

Boys are inclined to acquire the idea that noise equals power and even makes them sexually appealing.

For more evidence about small children's fear of noise, see this video of Boren's extremely loud commencement fireworks show. At 2:53 in the video, listen carefully and you will hear the sound of a small child crying.

  • It was comics and mtv and hot rods. Now it's rap music and car audio. I remember a time when custom shops were on every corner. Now Wal-mart sells "subs". I'm 23 and the hobby I've loved as far back as I can remember is being choked to death. While I was working on my stereo, most kids in High school were having kids, doing meth and driving drunk. Maybe I shouldv'e done that than do something legal and safe like car audio. My apologies Mr. Wright.

  • You are an ignorant boomhead noise-lover. In many municipalities, it is prohibited to blast car steroes to where they can be heard more than 50 feet from the vehicle. Unfortunately, law enforcement is often weak, so you boomheads can usually get away with your crime. You are also a fool for saying that it is "safe." Loud music causes hearing loss, fool. The stress and sleep deprivation is also bad for the health of the innocent people who are forced to suffer because of your audio violence.

  • I am not surprised that a boomhead jerk like yourself would also be a racist. I leave hateful obscene messages like yours online just to educate the public about the fact that you are hostile ignorant fools who can't even write a complete sentence without using obscenity.

  • But to show that I understand your pain I had an idea. If you speed through a red light that has a camera, it takes a picture of your license plate. And then a ticket is mailed to the owner. We'll put a camera on your street with a sound meter. If the meter is triggered the camera takes a photo of the license plate etc. I think that would work out. Petition the local goverment to alot for one camera, and if the problem is as bad as you say, the ticket's fines will pay for future cameras.

  • I leave rude obscene hateful messages like this online so that decent people will be able to see what kind of miscreants and jerks like boom cars.

  • Noise-loving meatheads like yourself don't understand much of anything except "boom-boom-boom." Ahhh! It feels so fine after you've had your noise fix, doesn't it, meathead?

  • The boomhead accuses me of "bad english." The boomhead does not know that English is capitalized. The boomhead says that he can't understand half of my sentences. The boomhead needs to go back to grade school and learn to read.

  • Whats this repeating of this name boomhead. Thats not our names so how are we supposed ot know who your talking to? Ha bad english ya right I cant even understand half your sentences.

  • Responsible enough to run a car wash? Hardly. You have no..zero..nada sense of responsibility at all. Forcing your music on others isn't being responsible, Spanky. What goes around..comes around.
