You're right! Not only that Nanbudo derived from Karate, It also has ties to Judo & Aikido.

I agree: ju-randori is good, but kata is quite confused (too many people doing different things) and misses a lot of basics. kime is just a "sound" and positions are not perfect. all the karate positions and kime are missed. nanbudo is "round" but this does not mean it must be like a dance without expression. I really like the moves of mariano... almost like a segal movie. ;-)
