This is an example of a solution to a potential no-win scenario to demonstrate the fact that there is no such thing as a no-win scenario and that there is ALWAYS something that you can do to survive, even if you have to reprogram the computer! :o) Humanity itself may need to be reprogrammed at some point in time so out-of-the-box thinking may be necessary in facilitating your genius ideas.

This is the 10-minute version when there was a shorter limit.

Here is the 15-minute "updated" version...

  • Beautifully done.

I kind of wish, though, that you had used the entire scene in engineering, from when Spock goes down there to when he dies and Kirk slumps down beside him totally defeated.

  • @StoneKnivesBearskins, yes, but we only had 10 minutes to work with back then. Now that we have virtually unlimited video time I may take another go at the edit. Thanks for mentioning it. :o)

  • @StoneKnivesBearskins, that was the 10 minute version when there was a shorter limit. Here is the 15 minute version... youtube.com/watch?v=8hEosDuauMI

  • You'll have to watch the movie that is out in theaters now to find out. And/or watch the TV show "Fringe" where he is the multi-dimensional traveler who appears to be somehow working with the good doctor/mad scientist. :o)

  • This is only half the story. The second part is that Kirk hasn't learned to face death, which is the ultimate no-win scenario that eventually catches up with all of us. That's why there's this whole theme about age throughout the movie... and then Spock sacrifices himself. Finally the Kobayashi Maru comes full circle and Kirk has to face that eventual possibility that we all do. He cheated his way out of facing death so many times, but not this time. Now he has to swallow the bitter pill.

  • @NecessaryTruths Nope, the original is better

  • "The needs of the many... etc."

That line was wrong. I wish someone had re-written it thus (or something similar):

Spock: Don't grieve admiral... it's logical. I had a choice between killing myself... to save the ship... or letting myself die... with everyone else. My life... was not in my power to save. So, I chose the option... I found to be more... (ironic smile) comforting. I'm glad you all will live... my friends.

I think that would've been even sadder than the original dialogue.

  • @PiPhD YAY! I will be looking at your channel Every Single Day until you post it, so don't dissapoint me. LOL

  • ...NICELY DONE...

  • death then rebirth through "genesis"
