A cairn is a wonderful, simple and ancient form of art. Symbolically they can mean 'look over here', 'watch out!', 'go this way', 'I was here', 'here lies a loved one' or 'remember'. This cairn, built on the banks of the Avon river in eastern Victoria, Australia, is in memory of a friend. The sedimentary river stones sometimes look like books and if you were a geologist you could probably read them, too. I'm no scientist. For me, the stones represent the yesterdays I shared with my friend, permanence and the fragility of life.

  • wow to me rocks of that nature are a real treasure. I carve such rocks if and when I can find them. I wish I lived nearby some place like that.

  • @dariod2007 Thanks for the comment. I'd offer to post you some river rocks but the freight would probably be prohibitive! Carving a rock like that must be hard work. Love to see some of your work. Cheers!
