I was in Darwin living in Jingly right across from my primary school. I was ten at the time and pretty much lay in 4 inches of water under my parents bed from 2am until 6am. We all thought is was over as kids, but then it's over and everything's OK. I can't imagine how hard it was for my parents.
We were evacuated 4 days later to Brisbane's Waco hostel for 3 months. I remember the lions club really looked after us. Thanks to all those who helped.

in full flight. One photo showed an aerial view of the suburb of Moil before and after Tracey. Before the cyclone (hurricane, for those of you from the northern hemisphere), Moil was a neat series of white oblong boxes, but after it, Moil was just rubble. Australia banded together amazingly, and a lot of money was raised. I still have the single on vinyl somewhere....

I was 11 when the news came through. Darwin, the capital city of the Northern territory had been devastated by a cyclone, effectively 'blown away'. It's so true: 'Australia was shocked and saddened as the news came through'. I couldn't believe what I was seeing on the news - it looked like every building was damaged, most being severely damaged. In '94, when I went to Darwin museum, they had photos before and after Tracey, as well as a darkened room with a recording playing of Tracey

I wasn't born when Tracey hit...but mum and dad tell of picking up my aunt and cousins from the airport in Brisbane and them just being shell shocked, not moving, not saying anything, just silent and still. My youngest coucin is only a few years older than me, so she would of only been a toddler then.

I was living in Mount Isa when Cyclone Tracey hit Darwin. I remember how everyone in the Isa pulled together and helped those from Darwin.
This was a very sad time in Australian history. A time I hope is NEVER repeated.
I don't understand well : is 'Darwin' here a town?
