The Carbon Of the Graphite is conductive.. This is the same material used in Electronic components such as Resistors. If you were to put this Pencil lead under a vacuum it would increase the life of the light exponentially because the molecules breakdown under heat.. More Oxygen=More heat. You can also use these as small heaters.. Especially with some tuning. This really does work.. I discovered it by accident when I was in High School. I was in English Class, Had a 9 Volt Battery and Pencil
