That sounds good, but why are A and Am the same fingering?

As I wrote in previous comment, I do not have B string so I often play chords without third. Fingering 2222 has the notes EAea. If there is need to distinguish A and Am, I have to play C# note at 6th fret of one of G string or C note at 5th fret. So the voicing would be: A = 2226 (or 2622), Am = 2225 (or 2522).
The other option for A is to use F chord shape (with thumb on 4th string) 3532 and shift it up the neck to 7976. Am would then be 7975.

Is that your own way of tuning the tenor banjo or is it standard? I am impressed.

Standard (or one of standards) is CGda. My DGdg tuning mimics the 5-string banjo tuning gDGBD. I have no B string and my high g is on the other side.
