She sings enchantingly here! Her pianissimi and her phrasing are OUT OF THIS WORLD! She possesses so much musicality and lyricism in her voice! I like so much how she changes vocal colour according to the character she is portraying! For example, as Tosca, her voice sounds much fuller and voluminous!

I love Angela, but she is uncharacteristically suffering from some pitch issues here. Strange.

La Tebaldi è una perfetta Adriana ma anche molto diversa. È vitrea e paradisiaca ma monodimensionale, Angela invece ha una tavolozza di sfumature, ha l'umanità che costruisce il personaggio già dal suo primo ingresso. Il fraseggio è morbido e i piani calibrati. Quest'aria è facilmente noiosa se non la sai cantare, perché molto lenta e di poche note prolungate (alla Casta Diva), ma se canti il dramma oltre la nota come lei allora hai centrato l'obiettivo

Non capisco l'ostilità nei confronti di questa grande artista. Questo ruolo le calza a pennello, l'ho anche ascoltata dal vivo ed era superba! È un ruolo lirico, lento e che richiede un colore drammatico, mi sembra che lo domini bene! Certo la Caballè è un'Adriana insuperabile ma lei è l'Adriana dei tempi moderni

@unotenore As to your point regarding Freni singing past her prime: agreed. On your opinion that I do not know voices "at all": I sung as a boy soprano with the American Boychoir in my youth, have an undergraduate degree in vocal music and literature, and a master's degree in choral and orchestral conducting from the University of California. I work in the field and other professionals rarely if ever have use for the archaic categorizations of "fachs" of which you speak.
