Here's the next stage of rebuild for one of my Mini engines.
The block was sent to Rob Walker engineering (Nice chap) He acid dipped it, replaced the damaged cam bearings, bored it to 1293cc, skimmed the block and pressed new Hepolite pistons onto the con rods.
Using new crank bearings I refitted the crank and torqued it down.
I forget the figures because they're in the workshop but they're in the Haynes manual.
I'm using titanium fasteners on the engine rebuild except the crank bolts.

  • Hi, nice video. My mini engine has been damaged during driving so I need to rebuild one. I've got a nice one at home which I stripped. I thought it was quite difficult to assemble an engine (crank etc.). Is it really just refitting with new bearings or do you need to measure certain things to make sure it is in the right place when assembling?

Thanks in advance for your answer!

  • @RiskyR I'd recommend getting the Ultimate Mini builder DVD by Bill Sollis, because he shows you how to rebuild a 1275 engine and what to look for. Lots of preparation is the key. Reading, buying the tools, cleaning equipment, gaskets, bearings etc. The mini forum is good for advice if you get stuck.

Engines aren't that difficult to rebuild. They can just be expensive and take a long time.

What damage has your engine got?

  • @titanclassics the 'good' one is in quite good condition, but still needs new pistons etc. because it has done quite some miles. The other engine is in bad condition with a damaged piston nr.2 and piston nr.4 got a hole in the top. I don't know what I'll do with that one but I'm pretty sure I'll rebuild the engine that's in better condition.

Thanks for your reply, I'll look for that DVD

  • Love this!! Thanks for doing the video! Keep up it up there are lots of people who love seeing this stuff.
