Tyne and Wear Metro cleaning programme

This latest video highlights the efforts that go into keeping Metro clean for the thousands of passengers who use the service.

DBTW, who operate Metro on behalf of Nexus, have a stringent cleaning programme in place for Metro's 90-strong fleet of trains.

A dedicated team of cleaning staff work round the clock to keep the Metro carriages clean for when they enter service.

Powerful steam cleaners are used on the trains' seats to eradicate bacteria, while much of the other cleaning is carefully done by hand.

All the Metro trains are cleaned thoroughly at Metro's South Gosforth Fleet Depot in Newcastle. More than 100,000 journeys are made on Metro per day.

@m0dernrailways yep good point i was on one today and it was covered in crisp wrappers and full of shite and this was really early in the morning oh and plus they stink of burning rubber dont worry i have complained to nexus and they are looking into the case and i need to fill out a questionnaire of some sort

The majority of the Metros I've been on have been filthy! Chewing gum on almost every carriage. Maybe I just get the Metro that is always filthy, but 4001 is the worst, clean it every three days, it gets really filthy on the outside!

Trains seem to be pix in mix for which one is the cleanest!

Some trains are very clean and others you would think they have never had a wash in years!

Why are they filthy? Because they are abused by the public!!! Well done nexus and your cleaners, you do a very thankless task! A friend and I appreciate your efforts, but most of the public don't seem to care!! I would double your pay!!!

Metro's are cleaned?

Forgive me for not believing this - I've been on then for 6 years and every morning they are filthy first thing, maybe they perform this cleaning process off camera some other time??
