I cannot believe I finally found UG on Youtube. I lived in Mpls. from 1982-1987 and saw UG many times at Duffy's bar (record release party for Darwin's ...), 7th St. Entry, Williams Pub, and some club at the U. I knew a good friend of the band who introduced me to them and I used to talk to David at a coffee shop in the city (near the German restaurant). I was at the concert in front of Northrup Auditorium when they got shut down by the campus police. Always a blast to see them.
Always a fun night out with Larry and the band. They played lots of weeknights at smaller bars like Uptown and William's... usually with some insane drink special. Nice guys, too.
I also really liked their Sonny & Cher cover- "The Beat Goes On". Brilliant.
In 1984 I saw these guys play outside at the University of MN. The administration building was just to the left of the stage and the workers complained about the volume. Someone told them to turn it down. After they left, the singer proceeded to tell the audience about this dilemma. He said the following, "You know what I say to those people? F*@! you up there in your offices!" The band gave the finger to the offices. The audience followed suit. The school shut the show down. It was fun
@bloderme haha, I assure you. They were not gay. Minneapolis was the best place to be in the "80's for music. These guys put on a kicking show! And people actually danced, not this standing around and bopping of the head toward the stage. We actually moved.
anyone remember the controversy when a high school hired this band to play their prom or some other highly touted high school event? It made the news anchors, and my parents, a little nervous. Oh sweet innocent '80's......
Always was a great time running monitor sound with these guys at Kirby's in Moorhead. Those were the days.
