IST #79: Jerusalem, the Temple and Mourning

Today is the 17th of Tamuz on the Jewish calendar. It is a fast day and the beginning of the period of the mourning period called the 3 weeks that culminates with the fast day on the 9th of Av on the Jewish calendar. Historically many calamities befell the Jewish people during this time period including the destruction of both Temples (in 421 BCE by the Babylonians and in 70CE by the Romans). What other people mourns the destruction of life in Jerusalem? What other people relives the memories of what happened to Jerusalem centuries ago. No other people. The connection between the Jewish people and Jerusalem is eternal and our calendar and traditions prove it.
