This second "Conservation of a Broadside" video shows the broadside after washing [view part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeP5KPEcKfY ]. After the artifact was flattened, it was ready for mending and reinforcement in areas that were fragile. There were two very small edge tears on the right edge (in the upper portion) of the sheet, and there was a small slightly skinned area on the back of the broadside (on the back of the image area). The tears were mended and the skinned site reinforced, using very thin Japanese tissue and wheat starch paste. Providing mends and stabilizing the condition of the broadside allows for safe normal handling during subsequent exhibit preparation procedures.
