Please visit my Blog http://www.curlyincolorado.com/. This is a discussion on my heat damaged hair and what I've learned the past couple years while using heat to straighten my natural hair.

  • Hi Thanks for you video, it was really helpful to me. I have experienced heat damage and I have been growing my hair natural since early 2009. I didn't big chop, but I found that I've had to cut any split ends and I am prone to single strand knots. I was thinking about having a Brazilian Blow Out (protein treatment) but I don't want to damage my hair. What would you recommend?

  • @Zod899 I think the Brazillian Blowout is a pretty intense treatment due to the chemicals and heat used to fuse the keratin to the hair strand. I would definitely do my research on the technique before going through with it. I would also like to suggest techniques such as Roller Setting your Natural Hair. You can achieve satin smooth results with rollers and sitting under the dryer is considered indirect heat use. This may be a healthier option for your hair. Just my 2 cents HTH :)

  • Do you think you get heat damage with those steam straighteners?

  • @katty40ify I would like to think that those can be "safer" but if they are used on the higher end of the temperature dial and more often, I think it's still possible to get some change in curl pattern. The people I've seen who have not experienced heat damage using this type of styler used it at a very low setting.

  • Excellent!! However I have not used flat irons nor blow dryers and my two year aniversary will be in May. I learn the hard way myself had to cut it all off and start all over two years ago.

  • @8mossgirl Thanks for the comment. I'm planning on using the roller sets and a flat iron with a temp dial for future straight styles so hopefully I can keep my hair damage free.
