That was really cool. I'm gonna try it :)

I just used it and it does work. It's a good tip to keep in your mind when you don't have a certain tool. It's better than nothing and I respect that the person was saying that children, etc could use it when they have nothing else or parent(s) with low income. If you can't afford the more expensive art supplies then headon down to the dollar store or dare I say...Wal-Mart because keeping up your dreams of drawing and expanding your skills shouldn't be stubbed by anything. No pun intended.

I haven't used it yet, but I'm going to try it until I can get to the store. You can also use a bristle paintbrush to blend without the silver shine. I got that tip off of youtube as well. Haven't tried it yet, but maybe someone will get something out of it. I think it's a good tip. Keep it up!

@jjstudios100 It depends on the kind of paper you use to make the stump, I like to use white printer paper. The blending quality is not that bad but I would recommend buying pre-made stump that you can buy in art supply stores because the paper is rolled up thickly and is more compressed so you can blend larger and smaller area with the same stump. Well, I hope this helped. Good Luck : )
Or you could just oay 1 pound. Or jus shade

Well, if you run out of your store bought ones, don't feel like going all the way out to the nearest craft store for more, and just happen to have a sheet of newspaper lying around, I hope you keep this in mind.
You could use your fingers, but the oils naturally present on the hand tend to stain paper. Straight up shading does look better than anything blended in pencil, but it takes a very steady and deliberate hand to achieve a smooth gradient. This is just a helpful trick.

It does work; I use it all the time.
If it's not working on the type of paper you are using, I would suggest using a more textured piece of paper, or a softer material, like a tissue for your blending stump.

i wouldnt suggest using newspaper or anything that has a printed ink on it as the ink can come off and smear onto your drawing.

This tutorial is meant for people who are looking for an inexpensive alternative to the blending stump, and newspaper is something that almost everyone has just lying around. The point of this is to be able to have a blending tool that can be made in a pinch, not to have something that is professional quality.
