Words:
Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all

Watched the men who rode you switch from sails to steam
And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream

Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

I've done a bit of smugglin', I've run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last, never meant to last

And I have been drunk now for over two weeks
I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks
But I got stop wishin', got to go fishin'
Down to rock bottom again
Just a few friends, just a few friends

(instrumental)

I go for younger women, lived with several awhile
Though I ran 'em away, they'd come back one day
Still could manage to smile
Just takes a while, just takes a while

Mother, mother ocean, after all the years I've found
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown
Coda:
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

  • Im living in that world in a round about way, Alaska fisherman, sitting in Sea-Tac Airport, flying to southern Florida. Growing up in Colorado, I sprung to live abroad, Mainly New Orleans where I have worn masks behind the shadows, lived ten full lives in one and looking forward to live ten more... Katrina gave birth to my current wonderings and I find strength in the sorrows we live, day to day, and I am a muse to the blues of loving a lady, my country, my world and my booze. Keep it up!

  • Jimmy is a great guy, I was in the Navy and he came out for free to the middle east at a moments notice, paid for everything and came and did a concert for us and hung out with us for 3 days. He's as humble in person as he is in his songs. Jimmy Thanks for coming out and visiting us!!!!! CVN 75 Harry S Truman

  • Be 65 in Feb 2012, have lots of time but not much money. Dam time slips by.

  • I think most can relate to this song in some fashion. When your at a stand still in life and looking back on the past. Thinking of all you have done and what could have been. yes, agreed .

Sir, you sound like a fascinating fellow. I just wanted to wish you well in all of your wandering. I cannot see my beloved ocean at the moment. Please enjoy her for me, and all of us that can't be with her.
