Try these simple exercises, as featured in April Horse&Rider's 'Essentials', to improve your flatwork and your jumping...
1. Ride 10-metre circles around two jumps placed 21m apart, leg-yielding across the diagonal between the jumps. This teaches horses to respond to the aids between the confines of the jumps, and gives the rider focus.
2. Place two poles at right-angles on the track. Ride collected canter toward the pole and ask for a change of canter lead as you reach the it. Your horse should change legs as he jumps over the pole.
