Angeles Gulin "In questa reggia" Turandot

Angeles Gulin was a Spanish dramatic soprano, died in 2002. Occurred to know in 1968 when the aid won "Voci Verdiani" in Busetto.
Its repertorie was dedicated specially Verdi, sang many works of the first Verdi: Oberto, Il Corsaro, Ernani, Nabucco, I due Foscari, Stiffelio, Aroldo, etc. and the great verdian repertoire: Forza, Ballo, Luisa Miller, Otello, Traviata, etc. Also other dramatic works of the Italian repertoire: Andrea Chenier, Wally, Turandot, Gioconda, Giorgietta, Norma and some of the germanic repertoire: Tiefland and French: Valentine of Les Huguenots.
It regularly performenig in the following houses of opera: Liceo de Barcelona, Teatro de la Zarzuela Teatro Real de Madrid, Coliseo Albia de Bilbao, Covent Garden, Munich Opera House, Amsterdan, Zurich, San Carlo di Naples, Torino, Reggio di Parma, Bologna, Rome, Venezia, New York and San Francisco.
She made is Met debut in 1982 sang "I Vespri sciciliani". As of this one date its health was debilitated and after several attempts it left the scene in 1987 singing the roll of Elena de Troya in Boito's Mefistofele next Caballé and Nesterenko at Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid.
It had a voice of dramatic soprano of great volume, fleshy, homogenous and beautiful tone. She had song refined and sensible although without great facility for the coloratura.
Their only commercial recordings include one opera: Oberto, conte di San Bonifacio for Fonitcetra and four zarzuelas for EMI-Odeon. For RAI it recorded Aroldo, Alzira, Beatrice di Tenda; among which they are possible found in pirate labels. Some of their performances also have appeared in pirates labels, although many of their great rolls are in private collections.

This is better than the Ernani aria elsewhere on YouTube,but the voice is still full of severe faults.

In this she is ably matched by the awful tenor.

It's amazing what some opera houses will put up with to put on a production!

She was singing at 2.600 meters over sea level, Bogotá - this is the reason she takes a breath at each singole word - At that level over the sea it is IMPOSSIBLE to sing and to breath : ask to all the Singers who sung there , and all of them must admit it !

Miss Gulin NEVER did such a lot of breathing : I remember her at her last performance at ARENA di VERONA , singing LA GIOCONDA with Carlo BERGONZI and C.Nac NEIL ...my God , she was UNBELIEVABLE , AMAZING .... the best !!!

Angeles Gulin was a great dramatic soprano who could have done much more than she did, if it weren't that she was pushed from one big role to another by her money-hungry agents. At any rate, the tempo here is way way too slow. I can tell, she was not comfortable.

It is a shame as the basic voice is good. I have a recording of her singing I Due Fosari and she simply collapses not being able to finish the cabaletta of her big aria and that is in the beginning of the opera.
