Darryl Linkow's speech - January, 2009 - at the MPTV Fund rally to save the Acute Care and Long Term Care facilities.
Backstory - In September, 2008, Darryl Linkow was diagnosed with Stage 2 throat cancer. For the next 7 weeks, he received radiation and chemotherapy treatments. During that time, he lost 30 pounds. His last radiation treatment was the day before Thanksgiving, 2008. Two days after Thanksgiving he was rushed to the MPTV Fund acute care facility. Because of the damage to his throat, taste buds and salivary glands from the radiation, Darryl could no longer eat or drink. He was extremely weak and his organs were shutting down. He was dying. The doctors and nurses at the MPTV Fund hospital, with their loving care and concern, treated Darryl and five days later, he was released from the hospital, to go home and recuperate. He was extremely weak and virtually bedridden for all of December and most of January. When Darryl heard on the KTLA News that the MPTV Fund acute care and long term care facilities were to be closed, he was emotionally devastated. This wonderful facility, with it's wonderful doctors and nurses was to be closed??!! Darryl, in his weakened state, got out of bed, the end of January, 2009, to attend the demonstration that is shown in this video, and was asked to speak to the audience. This is part of his speech.
UPDATE: Darryl had a full body PET scan on 9/9/09. It was NEGATIVE, meaning that there was no detectable cancer in his body at this time! Please help Darryl celebrate his 1-year anniversary as a cancer survivor by contacting the people shown at the end of this video and asking them to keep the doors of the wonderful facility that saved Darryl's life open for him and everyone else who might need their services now or in the future. Thank you!
2nd UPDATE - Darryl had another PET scan on 3/8/10. One again it was NEGATIVE! No detectable cancer in his body! Thanks again to the MPTVF. Please express your power and help to keep the Acute Care and Long Term Care facilities open.
Beautiful but extremely heart-breaking... We pray for him and all of the residents at MPTF... may God hear our prayers!!!
