I was a pole fisherman since I was a little boy on the big island, but once I got my firest spear gun I was hooked hahah I have been diving as much as I can ever since

I shot a 23kg GT in about 30m of water here at the Protea Banks, Southern natal coast, south africa. It took me about 25 minutes to land the fish and it towed me around like there was no tomorrow. While we as spearos generally try to stone a fish this doesn't always happen. A mate of mine who shot a 100kg marlin got towed for 2 and a half hours (vid of him landing it is on youtube)

Oh, BTW if you think there is no fight while diving. Just ask my friend Colin Hazama. I'll let him tell you. Ask him about fish pulling him out to blue water off drop offs. Oh yes, there is a battle. I've almost drowned over an Omilu when i was 14, i had to horse it in cuz it was pulling me under.

love diving but i would take fighting a fish on a rod and reel over blasting it with no fight anyday

Very very true. The difference between diving and fishing is this. Diving- the rush and the thrill is all before you actually hit the fish. Stalking, waiting, grunting, scratching, patience, etc. Then when it gets in range you shoot and if it's a good shot, your work is done. With fishing the work begins after it bites the hook and you don't know what you will land and if you will land it. So they both have their exciting parts. But once your under the water, you never go back. Thats how i was
