The League Against Cruel Sports together with the International Fund for Animal Welfare provided evidence of alleged illegal hunting to Cumbria Police following a monitoring operation in November 2008. The defendant, John Harrison, was found not guilty of hunting offences at Penrith Magistrates Court on 17 September 2009.
League Chief Executive Douglas Batchelor said: We are of course disappointed by todays verdict but we would recommend people to view the prosecution footage for themselves. The Hunting Act is the law of the land and it has the support of more than three quarters of the public. We will continue to monitor bloodsports enthusiasts and work hard to bring them to justice where they break the law.
