"Somewhere Along the Line", the ninth track from the 1973 Billy Joel album "Piano Man". I own absolutely none of this.
Lyrics:
Well it's a rainy night in Paris
And I'm sitting by the Seine
It's a pleasure to be soaking
In the European rain
Now my belly's full of fancy food and wine
But in the morning there'll be hell to pay
Somewhere along the line
Oh, but in the morning there'll be hell to pay
Somewhere along the line
Sweet Virginia Cigarette
Burning in my hand
Well you used to be a friend of mine
But now I understand
You've been eating up inside me for some time
Oh, and I know your gonna get me
Somewhere along the line
Somewhere along the line
Well I know it's just a matter of time
When the fun falls through and the rent comes due
Somewhere along the line
Well, you know I love my woman
And I would not let her down
And I did my share of lovin'
When I used to get around
Now I'm satisfied that she is lookin' fine
Oh, but you pay for your satisfaction
Somewhere along the line
Well you pay for your satisfaction
Somewhere along the line
Hey, it's good to be a young man
And to live the way you please
Yes, a young man is the king
Of every kingdom that he sees
There's an old and feeble man not far behind
Oh, but it surely will catch up to him
Somewhere along the line
But it surely will catch up to him
Somewhere along the line
Well you know it's gonna catch up to him
Somewhere along the line

Billy and Elton both have so many great songs that have pretty much gone unnoticed over the years. Of course they both have their own respective hits and such, but each man has so many fantastic songs that most people don't know about. This is one of Billy's best.

This is why I laugh when people call Elton superior to this man. Not only is Joel a brilliant composer, and not only does he write his own lyrics, but he is a poet with them. Not to mention you can actually understand him when he sings. And he sings better. I'm running out of room and I could go on and on.

Loves me some old school Billy Joel. I wore out the grooves on this album even though Pianoman is my least favorite song on it. I really dislike most of his stuff post 1980 but adore his older stuff even to this day!

this is a really good song--the album is pretty good too. he doesn't look too good on the cover of the cd case, but hey, you shouldn't judge a cd by it's case!

What beautiful early music from such a very young Billy Joel! This song hits such a lovely bridge when the keyboards reach a higher pitch as Billy sings, "Well, you know I love my woman, and I would not let her down."
