2011.03.05 Plattsburgh Wins SUNYAC championship

Despite entering the 2011 SUNYAC tournament as the fourth ranked team, Plattsburgh was ready for business. The Cardinals knocked fifth-ranked Morrisville out of the hunt with an exciting overtime win at home on February 23rd, 2011).

The Cardinals would then go on to face second-ranked Geneseo - extinguishing the Ice Knights' hopes of a conference championship with another overtime victory on Saturday, February 26th, 2011..

With top-ranked Oswego hosting sixth-ranked Fredonia, it seemed like a sure bet Plattsburgh would be traveling for the conference championships. At least, that was the case until Fredonia pulled a surprising upset win - in overtime - against the top team in the country.

Plattsburgh would host the Blue Devils on Saturday, March 5th, 2011 - sending Fredonia home second-best with a commanding 4-1 win. The Cardinals secured a spot in the NCAA Division III men's ice hockey national championship with today's win.
