Jen and Russell talk about some of the ways that data gets cooked for the promotion of religion.

This is an edited clip from The Atheist Experience #659 of May 30, 2010, with Russell Glasser and Jen Peeples (topic: "Creaming the data"). This entire episode is archived on Blip.tv and Ustream.tv. (Note: the archived episode on Blip.tv is a copy of the video file that was recorded on Ustream.tv. Hence the poor image quality.)

WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?

The Atheist Experience is a weekly cable access television show in Austin, Texas, geared at a non-atheist audience. It is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin. The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

  • Today in my class ( I am a student) we had a task where we were supposed to write down 11 things important in our life we got to choose from money, family, being popular, exciting life etc and religion. Every single one chose religion as last. I love Sweden

  • @monopolydevil In other words, you're going to pretend that being christian makes you a better person and ignore any evidence that might contradict you, because there were plenty of atheists who went to Haiti or else donated to relief, just as there are atheists all over the country doing things on a local level. You probably wouldn't even recognize them, since they don't go around trumpeting how atheist they are when they're helping out.

  • Tactics, hmmmm, I wonder who else uses tactics, oh yeah people who are LYING and KNOW IT.

  • even if the method is used correctly abstinence still isnt 100%, somehow jesus's mom still got pregnant

  • I think we were one of the last groups in TX to have an actual sex ed class. This was in 7th grade (2001) and I don't remember all this abstance bs being pushed on us. I'm sure we were told about it, but we actually talked about the anatomy and physiology of sex. The one thing I wish they talked about more was contraceptives, but we at least were told there were condoms and birth control to prevent pregnancies and STD's. I shudder to think the kind of education I would get now.

  • Condoms have a 100% success rate among people who don't have sex! SCORE ONE FOR TROJAN MAN!

  • hmmm, very often the missionarys love to cream the data. they for instace say that "christianity is growing in china" when i go check the prossents they have not changed much, if anything they are negative of what they said. the number of belivers has encreased bechose the population has. one apologetic clamed christianity was majority religion in japan witch i culd debunk bechose i have looked the numbers up and christianity has never been majority religion in japan.
