The Luttrell Psalter Film

Guided by the detailed and often humorous images of everyday life from the Luttrell Psalter, the Luttrell Psalter Film gives a unique glimpse of a year in the life of a medieval village. Filmed over four seasons, it shows the changing landscape with its fields and flowers, and the daily activities which dominated the lives of our forefathers. This 20-minute film draws on over 35 different images from the margins of the manuscript, allowing the people from the Psalter to walk out from its vellum pages.

Age the costumes? What nonsense. Maybe they should all be brown too? That is the same false reasoning that causes people to make a reproduction wooden chair and then stain and distress it to look 400 years old, as if nothing in the middle ages was ever new, or clean.

LivingHistorySchool: I was involved in the filming of this, and the film brief was to *recreate the pictures in the Psalter*, not to make them look 'more realistic'.  The pictures were not dirty or worn, but beautiful and bright, which is exactly what was recreated.

look at the cool clothes ther wearing im in the Sca so i get to dress like that at every event we have however these types of clothing are to hot to wear in the summer

but it was cooler back then.

@justus1199 There should be some sort of variety among the levels of cleanness with the reenactor's clothing, though. I spend a couple of weeks every summer at events building encampments and get my linen and wool tunics and hosen very dirty over the course of a day. During the working season, it's unreasonable to assume that anyone working in the fields was in such clean clothing as these fellows - no one would wash them that often in their right mind!
