Take out your MPC and play along as Bill Holland shows you how to bang out some beats on the Akai MPC500. In addition to sequencing your beats, Bill shows you how to compensate for slightly imperfect time, and if you want to throw some mean FX on some of the pad sounds, this video will cover all your bases.

  • is it possible to get 808 or oberheim sounds for the akai?

  • i'm assuming you mean the oberheim dx? IT's got 808 sounds as presets. can't remember if there are dx sounds, but you can find sample banks of people who have made their own online. What i usually do is borrow an old drum machine and make my own sample library, but there are tons online too.

  • thanks..i've done some homework on this and i'm trying to snag a mpc 1000. Then hopefully record some DX sounds from a record and chop them up. I think its great that is has the 808 as presets, wouldn't expect any less.

  • I think if they didn't, it would be nothing less than a crime against beatmaking. Love the DX, by the way.

  • where can i find the first video??

  • @mashlikesgolfface man, if you are yearning for a 500 then that's something haha. you can get a 2nd hand mpc2000 cheaper than a 500. trust me, don't buy this piece of junk

  • @clipcalhoon - its terrible at chopping

  • @IeveLivy - need a 2 gig compact flash card

  • Hello, Dude!

I bought the MPC500, but I'm still learning how to do it works.

    Can you help me, please?

I tried to put a song in it, but it says: "Insufficient memory!!!"

What can I do? How can I "clean" its memory?

    Well, thanks for your attention.

    Priscilla.

  • Looking at buying this mpc but it would be my first mpc, can you use it straight out of the box or do you have to load sounds onto it via pc/laptop?

I play synths and want something to make full drum tracks to play to but with live playing potential.

  • thinking about picking one up, how is it as far as sampling from records and chopping them? and also would you recommend this over the 1000?

  • Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong

  • just asking dont kill me new to this gear. How does this compare to the native instruments Maschine? I'm in the market for something like this and ive seen stuff were producers say all they use now is maschine and all there mpcs are collecting dust. This is usually all being said on the Native Instruments website so im not sure what to believe. anyone have experience of both?

  • @DekadentMusic me too. you need a driver?
