[Part 1 of 2. See below for links to further parts]
Australia. 2008 WPS Bathurst Motor Festival FORMULA VEE CHALLENGE.
Mount Panorama, Bathurst, New South Wales. February 8-10 2008.
Field of 55 Formula Vee's competing.
Onboard with Tim Hamilton, Race 2 starting from 5th, 6 laps.

Starting 5th, Tim looses a number of positions early on, falling as low as 10th. Despite getting back to 6th, the lead group had towed away and an enthralling battle began with Gary Ogden (Mako 04) for the position. Racing side-by-side across McPhillamy (the mountain top) was a brave and daring highlight for the combatants.

Unfortunately, nearing the end of lap 6, Tim makes heavy contact with the wall exiting Forest's Elbow (T18, onto Conrod Straight) resulting in a non-finish (DNF). Suspected to be as a result of choosing too-higher tyre pressures, Tim was battling a nervous & twitchy lack of grip, with both chronic under-steer and over-steer. Simply driver error, pushing too hard with oversteer through Forest Elbow, finally caught up to end the weekend.

With no spares package, the damage was not repairable for the final race.

DNF. 8th fastest lap time (2:45.7884 on lap 4).

Race won by Ben Porter (Checkmate JP02) from Ryan Simpson (Jacer F2K6) and David Cutts (Jacer F2K6).

  • @alexQw33 actually formula vee uses a vw 40 horse engine, which is i think is a 1200 or 1300 cc engine. the 1600 has 70-90 hp depending on the year. that being said the vw 40 horse is closer to 80 after changing it to a formula vee engine, that's why they last like 2 races

  • @adakar83 No worries mate.

BTW, this looks like a lot of fun... and probably is the cheapest way to get a feeling for that it would be like to run in Formula 3 without getting a second mortage on the house. I read on wikipedia that these cars can reach 190KPH (120MPH) that is incredible for a tiny 1600 air cooled engine. My moom used to have an old VW bug... the only way to reach 60 miles was on a steep down hill... aaaaahhhhh

  • @alexQw33

I made mistake. 475 is minmum weight WITH driver for 1200 cc and 495 kg for 1600 cc. My bad.

  • @adakar83 are you sure "minimum weight: 475Kg empty and 490Kg including driver"??? I dont velieve you can get a driver that weights, 15kg (aprox 33lbs). Unless its a 5yo with an eating disorder, LOL

  • Bathurst looks like a lot of fun!

  • @herfo69 by maintenance and dedication! ....maybe he farted.
