one of my favorite b-sides of all time.Curtis Mayfield is featured solo on this track even though it's billed as an Impressions track. Johnny Pate handles the brilliant arrangements here with magnificent brass and string sections working their magic. many people know and love the a side of this platter "we're a winner" (the title would also become the motto of Mayfield's Curtom label). i always loved b-sides better though!

  • Chi town gave us this man But the ATL was his choice to spend his final yrs,RIP Curtis.

  • @MrDSmooth56 True!

  • You can't go wrong with any Impressions, especially when Curtis Mayfield was in the group. Once Curtis Mayfield left the group, it just wasn't the same....

  • Very true!

Even though the material the Impressions cut with Leroy Hutson as lead were great in my opinion, you just couldn't replace Curtis Mayfield as lead vocalist and producer/songwriter with his friends/groupmates. I guess good friends do make the best music, huh?

  • Why wasn't this an A-side? Wonder if it was ever used in a film? Would be great background music for break-ups in movies.

  • I strongly agree.

  • This is what the game is missing. Who listens to the radio anyway??? Youtube is where I come for that good ol' soul music =)

  • I had my first dance and we slow danced to this song all night long. Remember the red light? Well,,. this is one of those red light songs. That was 42 years ago, I couldn't find this tune anywhere. Thanks YT!!

  • THIS WAS MY FAVORITE!

  • mayfield was a great song writer of standard style songs as testament ot this song.

  • Nice montage.

  • @trt524 Did the Impressions record this as a remake? I'll have to check out Walter Jackson's version.

  • @royhaworth You are absolutely right. This happened with the Friends of Distinction. The record execs often decide. I remember playing the flip side of We're A Winner - this song a lot, when my sister bought the song. A lot of good B-sides have gone unnoticed: this song, I Found That Girl (J5), because of the decisions made by idiot record execs. I guess they did not want to pay the artists their real worth, even though, I believe Curtis owned his masters.

  • Curtis voice always takes me back a much simpler place and time.

  • Curtis Mayfield Is A Musical Genius ... BUT ... Walter Jackson OWNS This Song !!!

  • It's beautiful. Simple.
