Thursday, 12 May 2011 at the Old River Control Structure at the confluence of the Mississippi, Atchafalaya, and Red River. This is the Atchafalaya side of the floodgate, shunting off water from the Mississippi. The water level on the Mississippi River side is within just a few feet of topping the levee. I'd say it was a fifteen to twenty foot difference in water level. This is probably twenty or so miles upriver of the Morganza Spillway.
