What happens if a single person adopts and then a few years later decides to marry someone of the same sex? What? This is against the best interests of the minor! If one child may benefit from his adoptive mother or father marrying...then why should another child may not benefit from his adoptive mother or father marrying? This makes no sense!

And in a not so cocking move the gays will next try to lower the age of consent.
*incert your catholic priest joke here*

@tacv because of Portugal's stance on gay marriage, we have had to live in my home country, which is more anti gay. Because Portugal has refused to recognise our union, my Portuguese partner resigned and has lived with me in China for the last 7 years. She survives on a working visa (something that we would not be able to get for me in Portugal as I am Chinese, too old, and have no skills considered necessary to you economy). You are selfish to only consider yourself an example.
-
well u don't know Portugal at all ... Im gay myself and im portuguese so i can asure you that Portugal do not cause tremendous suffering to gay people. Also Portugal do not have anti-gay legislation. And this law just show how the government and the people think about gay people. If Portugal had anti-gay legislation then we would never aprove this law. If you are LGBT you should be happy and give credit for Portugal for this. I rest my case, you cleary don't know Portugal at all.

@tacv Listen, friend - I have personal reasons for being extremely sceptical of Portugal's "achievement". Your government has caused tremendous suffering for gay people. I have been unable to settle there with my partner because of Portugal's anti-gay legislation. We have been living in Asia for 7 years because of it. So don't you talk about how wonderful your government and society has been to people like me - because they HAVEN'T! And you are shameless to think they have.
-
Also i think its very clear that you are trying to find something just to not give the credit that Portuguese society and government deserves in this matter. You are looking for a silly discussion nothing more. So no matter what you say Portugal will be in history has the 6th country in Europe and the 8th in the world to legalize same sex marriage. If you have any problem with that shoot yourself cause thats a fact. End of discussion and cya

you're once again wrong. Im speaking about marriage and not civil unions. So you're completly wrong. And yes Portugal already legalized the law, it still needs publication, but the law was already approved. And the president has to sign it yes but if he doesn't approve it the parliment has the power to publish the law without president approval and they already approved it. So yes SAME SEX MARRIAGE is a great achievement.
-
@tacv Actually, you are wrong: Germany and England have civil unions, and recognise gay marriages of other countries. France recognises all gay marriages of the EU. Portugal has not yet legalised anything... the president can still veto the bill. Also, Portugal has denied gays adoption rights - which is, let;'s be clear on this, the same as saying: we don't want our children becoming gay, which now officially brands gays as infectious. Great achievement: (hollow capping)
-
To be clearer Europe has 50 countries only 6 of them includingPortugal legalized same-sex marriage so yes Portugal is in the lead in this matter in Europe and in the World.
-
Well you're once again wrong Europe is a big continent it has more than ex soviet countries. Europes powerfull like Germany, France, UK etc all don't acept same sex marriage. So once again Portugal is indeed in the front line in this matter in Europe ( 6th european country to legalize) and in the World (8th country to legalize). So yes you're wrong.
Why NOT adoption? What a bullshit.
