do you get to choose from teaching in a high school or middle school? or that depends on your teaching experience?

The only thing you can request (it may change though) is to not teach at the elementary level.
There is not a single person that I know of who has figured out how JET places people, so I can only speak for the people around me.
The people I know who speak some or a lot of Japanese where placed at JHS and Elem, whereas the non-speakers at SHS (me included). It is definitely a benefit to have some of the language especially at the elem level as many teachers don't speak English well.

School officially starts on the 31st and I will definitely post videos about teaching and working on the JET Program on my DeeDoubleYou81 channel.
There are a bunch of great vloggers (myargonauts is one) out there who have much more experience in that subject than I do, so I plan on sticking more to the frustrations of the job and dealing with them. I will also include some of that info in my "Living in Japan" videos.
