@Pallyguyperson Mercer isn't a good example of a top heavyweight either, but he didn't have any problem going into MMA and beating one of the top 10 ranked guys, don't try to find any excuses. Also pankration had nothing to do with MMA. The most widespread techniques in pankration were open palm strikes to the back of the head and groin kicks. Oh yeah, Junior dos Santos has great groin kicks... And the Severn example was just an example of guys who are equally regarded in their sport.

And Sylvia getting knocked out by a good boxer is nothing like rahman getting knocked out by Severn, Severn is a wrestler... Tim Sylvia isnt a good example of a top heavyweight today anyway. He is fat, slow, and sloppy.

@Pallyguyperson The equivalent of Sylvia losing to Mercer would be Dan Severn knocking out Hasim Rahman. When would that happen? And btw Couture started getting hit in the head and choked out, i.e. he started training MMA, when he was 34. And Toney has been hit repetitively in the head since age 16 or something. Also he was in his prime when he was 25. So the argument does work. Last but not least, boxing was invented by the Spartans and MMA was invented by some Jap/Brazilian guys. End of story

@DestroyerAlexandros Actually when that fight took place most people considered Sylvia a joke, and no longer in the top ten. And Randy Couture is 5 years older than Toney, so the Toney is a has been and Couture is a top contender argument doesn't really work. I am a fan of both mma and boxing by the way, so I'm not trying to hate on Toney or boxing.

Toney was a has-been middleweight fighting at heavyweight when he took that fight and lost in 2 minutes to a top contender of the UFC. Everybody seems to forget how top 10 Sylvia lost in 9 seconds to a has been boxer in MMA rules. The MMA community is like one whole communist conspiracy they are so secretive they'll cover up SylviaMercer like it never happened.
