  • Hi there. Sorry but the only places i regularly see crays of catching size are about 12-18m deep. If your really keen go to Dive Kaikoura and talk to one of the people there as they could probably show you on a map a good place to try.... or you could learn to scuba, makes it alot easier : P If i was free diving id be doing it off the side of the highway near the sisters (between the two tunnels).

  • @9BAAL any where up there, you just have to learn to hold your breath, relax and take your time looking. I'v been going up every year with my mates for day trips and I leave my scuba gear at home just so I can take paua. We've ALL taken the legal limit home every time. Best you take a big chilly when you find "The Spot". Good luck, Aaron. (nothing wrong with the scuba, I use it too)

  • mate go out to the seal colony at point kean. straight out from the car park there are a couple holes right out the end of the rocks. the one with sea access to the north east side is the best. at the sea entrance there are several ledges in about 6 feet or less that usually have a few on it. has to be pretty calm though. then swim towards teh south and you'll find a couple guts angling back towards the carpark. usually several good crays to about 20 feet. a miniq40 is good. calm weather only
