  • Funny how the quality between a JPEG and the raw can only be seen by the person who make the picture and edited it ! For kicks I have a set of doubles that have been massively tweaked. Showing these to pro photographers they always pick out the foto that suits their taste when asked which one in the raw ? I print, on screen and as final, doesn't matter. It is all subjective and trivial. What isn't trivial is the time / space lost with raw. Bin raw for normal photography, it adds nothing.

  • I mean really , its not like you can't turn a RAW File into a Jpeg file you know.. its always there regardless , Right.

  • You know what, I really have no idea why i shoot both.. RAW is so much better and i just love having all that control over the information.. Its not like i don't have a big enough card.. So from now on Its RAW RAW RAW.. LOL Thanks ..you just saved me some Jpeg space.. go figure.. lol..

  • You don't need a Lightroom Update to process Raw files, but you might need to find the latest "Camera Raw Plugin" and install that. All Photoshop tools use the plugin.

  • I know of some event/news guys that shoot both so that they have the speed of the JPG's which are ready to publish and the safety net of the RAW file 'just in case' they screw up a critical shot and need to fix exposure or white balance.

  • haha.. i've been shooting with my brothers brand new EOS 550D for the last week and until i have a lightroom update to support the RAW files, I'll shoot both JPG + RAW. That way if I happen to have a really good shot that i want to play with later I still have the RAW files to return to. I did the same with my EOS 500D & Olympus EP1 when they were brand new until Adobe caught up.
