  • I've slowly made my way through Del Rey's reprint of Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos. I'm reading each story in order, but I think I'll skip over two or three to finally read "Sticks," after hearing Mr.Pugmire's endorsement.

I have to admit that most of what I know about Nyarlathotep comes from guides and roleplaying manuals. I think I've only read two stories where he-she-it actually plays a role. Any recommendations? (Other than Mr.Pugmire's book, which I will buy when published. ;) )

  • @vomitbrown1 There are two stories in that edition of TALES OF THE CTHULHU MYTHOS that touch on the mystique of Nyarlathotep. "The Haunter of the Dark" by Lovecraft mentions some of this Great Old One's lore, & Lovecraft dedicated the story to Robert Bloch. Bloch wrote a sequel years later, which is also inthe book, called "The Shadow from the Steeple," and I have always loved that tale.

  • nyarlathotep is my fav outer god,he awesome.

  • @MrKARSEERUS Nyarlathotep is simply awesome because "he" is so enigmatic -- we will never solve the mystery of this Great Old One's nature or origin. There's an entire book devoted to stories about him called THE NYARLATHOTEP CYCLE, that was published by Chaosium years ago. I think it's available at Amazon, but I'm not certain about the price -- some prices for Lovecraft-oriented items are really crazy expensive.

  • Nyarlathotep is my favorite enigma, too.

  • Yeah, "Sticks" is the best Lovecraftian short story I've read to date. It is such a fresh story, even today.

  • @MrWilum I read those two stories.

Bloch's stories in TotCM are amazing! "A Notebook Found" is the most suspenseful Mythos stories I've read.

Also, De Vermiis Mysteriis is a hell of a name for a book of forbidden lore. I rather poke my eyes out before reading a tome called the Mysteries of the Worm.
