BETTY BRODERICK TRIAL TESTIMONY

Actual footage of the real Betty Broderick at one of her two trials. First trial ended in a hung jury--case was retried a year later and she was found guilty of second degree murder and the judge sentenced her to consecutive sentences, not concurrent. She was eligible for parole last year and it was denied (thank God!) The parole board listened to her rambling account of the incident in which she sounded exactly the same way she did at trial. She continues to blame her ex-husband for what she did and has shown no remorse whatsoever---even after over 20 years in prison!

I don't condone what she did, but I can understand how and why she snapped. She should have got mental health treatment before she went over the edge. If an already unstable person gives their entire life, youth, time, physical health (including physical appearance), psychological health (loss of self-identity from making a spouse their world) for so many years and suddenly with little to no warning "their world" (spouse) ends because he or she wants to trade for a new model, watch out!

@odessey50 I agree she should have gotten help long before things went as far as they did, but she wasn't clueless as to the marriage being in trouble. I realize Dan pitched some of the crap that went on, but she pitched the majority of it. He was miserable for a long time before he decided to leave---Linda or no Linda.

@monicadelvecchio1 The thing that just jumps out at me while reading your comments is that you must have been hurt deeply by some man. You're not alone. I have been hurt deeply in my life more than once. I have a much lower opinion of men than I used to. I have lived alone many years. Live and let live is my motto. But no matter what Dan did to Betty, there was absolutely no reason in the world for her to kill Dan and Linda.

@yaslylovesanime How was she made to feel "helpless and abandoned"? She hired a PR firm while she was in jail to get "her side" of the story out. And there were plenty of people who took her side. All of them misguided I might add.

For those saying she was in the same position other women have gone through, should reconsider. Her husband OWNED the justice system, he knew all the tricks and knew all the right people. She was denied her justice in the divorce procedure. It's enough to make someone feel helpless and abandoned by society, and if that person is already not that mentally stable this can lead to selfdestruction while dragging people with her. I do not approve, but I can understand.They had it all,she lost it all.

Sorry you buy into the notion Betty tried to plant in everybody's head that she "couldn't find an attorney because of Dan's influence". What about the times she failed to show up in court? Was that because she couldn't find an attorney? Dan "won" because she didn't show up to defend herself.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I just watched a show about this case and I actually felt bad for her. No, she shouldn't have killed them, however, I can see how she was driven to that point.  Such a sad story. I can't imagine how the children felt after losing their father and their mother in such horrific ways.

@napachild I think what sexyvalish is trying to say is that Dan broke the marriage vows behind Betty's back. From what I heard, while the two were still married, Dan had an affair with Linda long before Betty's life spiraled out of control. In other words, Dan committed adultery while he was still married to Betty...Of course, that still doesn't excuse what Betty did.

I only claimed that I understand why she felt unfairly treated during the divorce procedure (doesn't even mean it was true but if you feel something to be true it might as well be true.) since her husband knew all the tricks and all the judges. @yaslylovesanime Seriously? She admitted to hearing the gun noise 5 times & lest we forget, brought the gun over to the house, let herself in with a key she STOLE from her daughter and then claims she was only going to use it "so they would listen to me".

She always fought and cussed at him and if it's true she is a narrcissist then Dan's life was more hell then hers during the marriage. She didn't have a chance against Dan, they were fighting on his territory. I'm a lawyer in training myself so I know how it works. I'm not justifying her, but I can understand why she became very frustrated then. And I didn't know these people so I can't say anything about their personality.

@yaslylovesanime The sad thing that people who see things the way you do is that you tend to forget Betty was equally if not more responsible for the marriage going bad in the first place. She was diagnosed as a narcissist by one of the psychiatrists that testified at her second trial. She had a personality disorder to start with. She made Dan just as miserable as he made her. She was NOT a victim. Just a sick person.
