It was an election day in a number of states across the US yesterday. Ohio, the anti-union legislation that would have limited collective bargaining rights failed, with almost 6% of voters rejecting the law. Maine, by a margin of 60 to 40% voters rejected a new Republican law that would have ended same day voting registration. Mississippi, the Personhood Amendment that would have defined life as beginning at conception, also lost. So how should we look at this? Ana Kasparian of The Young Turks discusses.

  • If you have a single ounce of gray matter in your skull it is your duty to vote. You must save this country from the hordes of Jesus Camp types, geriatrics, and AIPAC knuckledraggers that are threatening to weigh this country into the ocean.

  • America is not a democracy, and day by day we are losing more, and more rights, but there might be hope for us, we do have a long way to go folks. Sigh.

  • @benjamin5028 We are not a free country, not in the least. Too many personal freedoms are taken away, and too many groups of people do not get their freedoms.

  • @rextrek We have disasters every Spring and Summer and they are called Tornadoes. Tornadoes wipe out entire city blocks and towns every year. there none of what you desribed here. though being a free country people are allowed to practice any of these as long as they obey all laws.

  • @whedonfreak976 Matters of personal taste are being made illegal, with no real compelling loss or interest at risk. I am opposed to this type legislation being enacted.

  • The stats for the election in MS shows that not all of the citizens there are whacko conservatives.

  • America wins! The shitting Christian dog fuckers and their corporate masters lose! Love it.

  • "Winning" by a 60/40 margin or less doesn't exactly put America in very good light. It definitely doesn't show that we are moving in a progressive manner, by any means. In the last 35 years we've backslid into 'puritan' politics and the corrupt ways of politicians/corporations of the late 1800s and early 1900s. It would need to be an 80/20 margin to show that we are on the cusp of common sense people waking up and getting involved in the political arena - for whatever that's worth!

  • @groovyengineer Right now Europe is more fucked than us, but if our Congress keeps fucking up the system to please a few we will be the worst!
