If you raise your voice 1 or more times a day, this video is FOR YOU!

Make a resolution to not raise your voice for a year and you may find that the new methods you use in the classroom will be better.

  • tell my parents that :/

  • @xxdeathx Think you're on your own with this one kiddo ;-)

  • there was once a teacher at my school, who left and i only had her a few times as a substitute teacher

and she once started the lesson yelling she went out of her way to yell, she yelled every chance she got.

  • Not all teachers should be teachers...

That kind of behavior though may be linked to outside stresses (Divorce, death in the family etc...)

  • I'm not allowed to do this at my school. Otherwise I would.

  • *huh?*

What about my advice would be "not allowed"? Yelling is mandatory?

  • Actually when I want to speak, I just say "I'm waiting for 4 people to sit down. I'm waiting for 3 people to sit down. There are 2 more pairs of eyes not looking at me."

Conversely I also ask "can everyone stare at whoever it is that is stopping the rest of you from learning?"

  • I love your advice about not pushing your advice on the students, Thanks will share:o)

  • I am glad I finally found right teaqcher to talk about real cases!!

  • You seem like a nice teacher..

  • @ArtOfTeaching In many schools, mine included, we are not allowed to keep students after school (elementary). However, I used it for lunch and morning recess if I don't have yard duty. Thanks for the tip.

  • This 'time owed' system has worked well for me over the past while. The students know that when I look at my wrist watch, I'm adding time. Anything over 30 seconds wait time, they owe. I've noticed similar things - other students will prompt the restless few to quieten down. We have a traffic light system at work / school, personally I find that it fails to address behaviour in a timely fashion...that's a different story. Good video - thanks mate.

  • Thanks for putting this out there - I've had several teachers who made me hate schol (or at least that year of school) because they yelled too much...

One of these teachers also discriminated agianst me because I have Asperger's Syndrome, and would yell at me for disability-related behaviors and would let the class laugh at me. She never seemed to notice when I did something good...

Thanks again for this video! You rule!

  • @Afrikaisi731 Before you knock this idea (Assuming you are a teacher) speak to your administrator or supervisor and try it. This is only done with problematic classes, pretty rare if you have good classroom management. I teach little kids in my summers and this works well with them too.
