Sure music can go beyond race..But to say otherwise is not ignorant, rather you're trying to forget or carry on some naive idea of giving up one's identity. Some could argue that rock music is predominately white, despite the fact there are hardly any respectably written lyrics in the genre that specify being white, at least to my knowledge. But rap or even jazz are much more honest with themselves in either displaying pride or writing of themselves concerning their race. What's wrong with that?
