Couldent they turn the landfill sites into a giant septic tanks and channel of the methane for fuel? They should filter out all the non organic componants, plastic, glass, metal, etc and put all the stuff filtered out from sewage sutch as hair cloggs and dog waste from bins and break it down into hamless mulch you can use for farming? There must be some fungi out there that can break down these matirials into nitrates and base elements like carbon.

in my country we get 0.15 cent for a 0.33l can, 20 cent for a 0.5l bottle, and 40 cent for a 1.5l bottle, we have 97.9 recycle procent so i hope the US takes that way too.
(the recycle money that comes back adds to the price of the bottle when we buy it so we kinda lose money IF we dont go and return da bottles to shop.

I think you are mistaken. Plastic bottles will degrade and completely dissolve within 400 years in landfill, plastic bags will take around 75-100 years. Glass, on the other hand is unable to biodegrade and will stay in landfill for life. This is the information that we are getting from the Government here in Scotland, UK. I hope this helps.
