  • I think it was more about the possibility of geological toxins they may have inhaled. think about what asbestos exposure can do to people on earth!

  • Well we know that now.

But mostly they used the quarantine trailer to appease anyone in the public who were afraid of "moon germs". But everyone at NASA knew there was probably no such thing.

  • @TheApollo11Channel JPL never built any of the Mercury, Gemini boosters, capsules or any of the Saturn stages, the CSM or LM either.

  • Public support? Even then people were taking business decisions as a popularity contest?

  • @spectre111 not Artemis that is the name of a crater and is taken we are calling the new ship Ares I and the capsule Orion

  • to all NASA was not taking risk as Armstrong said moon dust is like cement. if you breve it touch it or smell it it will get in you lungs. the Decontamination van was to keep the dust off anything they brought back and to remove viruses.

  • @DLPBurke oh..you never know...life takes such surprising forms that.

  • What is funny is they are already building the craft that will take us back to the moon and replace the space shuttle but it's not an upgraded space shuttle it's more like an upgraded Saturn V.

Fitting don't you think? They should name the new moon missions Artemis, the sister of Apollo.

  • It was probably to keep them out of public gaze for any unforeseen effects; radiation burns aren't pretty.

  • @DLPBurke hmmmm make three men go through decontamination for that one in a bazillion chance for nothing, or take that unimaginably small risk that absolutely EVERYTHING ALIVE WOULD DIE? Never liked to gamble myself.

  • @TheApollo11Channel

lol... sure they took lots of precautions... err... didn't they land in the sea? the largest biosphere on the plant (the Pacific ocean) was DIRECTLY exposed the the 11 crew,- as were: the helecopter and recovery crew (and helecopter) and the carrier crew.

If there were organisms- aggressive organisms - we would be all dead now... the isolation chamber was nothing more than a stunt...

  • when will we go back? i hope in my lifetime
