This is a very basic technique... Granted! But the details given by the master are so, so important that makes basic techniques like this become winning moves even at the highest level. The elbow controlling the thighs, the hand inside the thigh and not on top to prevent the breaking of the grip, the use of the thighs to gain control of the legs... That level of explanation makes a great teacher! Thanks!
@lorentzus Nah, a higher grip on the leg would just be exploiting a lack of flexibility in the opponent. Anybody who wasn't stretched that would be able to free their hip and turn the knee down to recover guard. It's much more important to control the rotation of the hips. Notice that Renato also has uke slightly stacked on his knee. Since he's planning to slice out to the side it doesn't matter if the leg extends. If Renato turned left instead, then he'd dig in his underhook and grab high.
Thanks for nice instruction! Would it be even better if the underhook was a little deeper over opponents left hip and hip+upper body posture a little bit higher up on opponents leg (shoulder on the calf rather than at the bend of the knee) with more forward pressure before initiating the pass? Or isn't the smashing pressure that important in this pass? If so is the case, would it be beneficial to hold the opponents belt to lock his hip, rather than just a "loose" grip around the hip?

this pass + left side pass combination is very good for match.
but many people dont use this technique,
they just think this is just basic technique.
but this is very important :)
