This is an off ride POV of the Gwazi wooden roller coaster at Busch Gardens Africa in Tampa, FL. This ride was remodeled in early 2011 and had new Millenium Flyer Trains added which made the ride much smoother. It was built in 1999 by GCI (Great Coasters Inc). It stands 105ft 5in/32.15m tall, features three near miss "Fly byes", and is the world's first DUELING (NOT RACING) wooden coaster. It's a common missconception that people think that just because there are two roller coasters in the same location that they are the same, this is simply not the case. If Gwazi was a "racing" coaster then the two tracks would be identical and the trains would be running in the same direction like the Racer at Kennywood or Gemini at Cedar Point. Gwazi, however has two completely different coasters called Loin and Tiger. Tiger has tighter turns where as Lion is more of a Slalom type ride. The two coasters have three near miss "Fly byes" which makes it a Dueling coaster.

Gwazi stats:
These stats apply to both Lion and Tiger side.
Height: 105ft 5in/32.15m
Drop: 91ft 10in/27.76m
Length: 3508ft/1069.23m
Speed: 51mph/82.07kph
Ride time: 2:30
Cost: $10,000,000 USD
G-Force: 3.5

  • I can't click on the annotation because that seeking think always pops up before I have any chance.

  • @mainchow10 Fixed it, thanks :)

  • I am a rollercoaster enthusiast and i go on them all the time but i hate this ride myself and my grandfather (also a lover of rollercoasters) sat on the back row, we both felt very sick and dizzy i don't know if it was just my reaction to it, but we'll never ride it again

  • Yeah, Gwazi didn't age very well as it just turned ten years old. In my opinion, the new owners (whom ever they might be) should scrap this ride and install another pair of GCI woodies using their Millenium Flyer trains. Or possibly something from Gravity Group that'll use their new Timberliner trains.

I wonder if just a refit would be all it needs, Cheetah also had a bad rep for how it aged, however after its recent refit its back to being the awesome coaster it once was. They spend $1 million dollars on Cheetah's refurbishment last off season and its much smoother and faster, and the airtime also improved a great bit.

  • @Scioneer From what I've heard, BGA borrowed the Millenium Flyer trains from the Ozark Wildcat for a test and apparently, they were impressed. Hopefully, we'll see the Millenium Flyer trains soon.

  • omg my mom whene on this ride and nevver got back on it lol

A set of Flyers would improve any ill-mannered Wooden Coaster. I think they should at least try them on Son of Beast before giving it the axe. Some say Cheetah might eventually get a set of Flyers.

  • @CarolineKerrOfficial

Yea, i hate this ride. it just plain hurts, its not even fun for me.

  • worst ride ever, omg.
