If MS fails, there goes a majority of all the available software. I can't see them failing. If they did, it would have to be a smooth transition in which one OS gains more of the market share than Windows. Which isn't going to happen anytime soon. I don't see why everyone hates MS anyways, they're not that bad. They offer a cheap solution for a consumer OS. Linux is free, but a novice user is gonna run into trouble and Mac isn't hard, but it's so expensive and not worth it for the average user.
Basically Microsoft is going to die, it doesn't have to be Google that does it, but Google might play a part in the downfall of Microsoft. Then after that Google might be dying to if they can't stay ahead of the game. =\
