I think human decency would order us to still be civilized, productive and caring, even if we new that within 1000 years our species will cease to exist. We are graceful, communal and very powerful. Would you chose to degrade your quality of life just cause you know your life might end soon?

Your run of the mill everyday atheist is not a philosopher - anymore than your average religious person is.
Most atheists walking around are hardly agnostic - they positively state that there is no God. That is what the caller was addressing.
Atheists who take the tack of Hitchens are obviously on much more solid rational grounds.

God exists but is completely unrepresented on Earth. Christopher is absolutely correct about the false nature of all Earth religions. Earth religions were created by our oppressors to divide us, control us, confuse us and prevent our engagement in critical thinking.

The first caller obviously hasn't encountered any atheists who actually think about their position, and are who well versed in the philosophy. Atheism, in its most basic form isn't the contention that we can KNOW that there is no God, or that we can disprove God. Rather atheism is the position that we have no reason to believe in God because no convincing reasons have been proffered by the apologists. In other words we are NOT proving a universal negative. It is the default position.
