Video: The rescue of a man whose canoe flipped in heavy surf in the Necanicum River near Gearheart, Ore., by an aircrew from Air Station Astoria, Ore.
Transcript:
LCDR Robert Potter: In this case, the helicopter was diverted shortly after take-off on a separate mission. There was a lady on shore that did see the gentleman in distress. Through the use of our command center and the 911 dispatch team center and her cell phone, we were able to find the man, quickly put a rescue swimmer into the water and return him to shore just 100-yards away where he quickly got medical attention.
