Africans Protest in Guangzhou, China

A rare protest by foreigners has taken place in the southern city of Guangzhou.Scores of foreigners, mainly Africans, surrounded a police station following rumors that an African stall-holder had died during a raid by police checking on visas.

The protest erupted mid-afternoon on Wednesday in an area of Guangzhou known for its large community of African traders and small businesses. A witness quoted by the South China Morning Post said police carried out a surprise passport check at the Tangqi Foreign Trade Clothes Plaza in central Guangzhou at around 2pm. Two Nigerians who then fled were chased by officers. The witness said the pair tried to escape by leaping to the ground from a second floor window.Africans Protest, Guangzhou

Racism and neo-nationalism is endemic in modern China. I for one am SICK of this arrogant country (China) who think their economic and military power and huge population give them a right to do as they please. They are always accusing the west of being imperialist but look at their behaviour in Africa- funding the brutal regime of Omar al-Bashir in Sudan as just one example.
